Artist statement
Y knot was initially inspired by the elastic bounce of a hair tie. Ropes and shock cords are combined with a fibreglass frame to create a piece of simple playfulness, elegance and freshness.
The high strength-to-weight characteristics of fibreglass used in conjunction with steel reinforcement have enabled the creation of a sleek, fluid chair frame. The chair's distinctive design provokes curiosity and entices interaction as the user discovers the bouncing and flexing motions that accompany any change in body attitude.
The bright colours of Y knot make it a striking focal point in any open area, beckoning the user towards it and offering a moment of relaxation and fun. Its unique design makes it a distinctive display piece for possible use in a musical theatre, shop or studio.
