Margaret Preston

Art & Life

This education resource, developed by the Art Gallery of NSW, highlights key works, ideas and themes from the exhibition Margaret Preston: art and life (2005–2006) which showcased more than 180 works by this celebrated Australian artist. Preston promoted her unique vision for a new, modern Australian art through a synthesis of European and Asian traditions, together with the profound influence of Aboriginal art which she recognised as one of the world’s great art traditions. The illustrated resource provides a comprehensive artist biography and specific investigations and approaches for students to gain a fuller appreciation of Preston’s work. These materials are accompanied by detailed learning activities, questions and assessment tasks tailored to specific year levels and learning abilities.
