Art Acquisition Fund
By making a cash gift to the Art Acquisition Fund, you can take much pleasure in helping to secure a particular work of art. Your preference for a particular medium or period of work, which is of special interest to you, can be discussed with the NGV. Donations to the NGV Art Acquisition Fund of $1 million or more will be held in a named Acquisition fund and major donors will be associated with an ongoing stream of acquisitions in perpetuity; you will be acknowledged on the label when the work is on display at the NGV or on loan, and on the caption each time the work is reproduced in a book or catalogue, or online. You can make a donation to the Art Acquisition Fund online.
Making a gift to the NGV’s Permanent Endowment will help us ensure that each year strong income is available for major purchases. A Committee of leading financiers and investors carefully advises on investing the Endowment funds. Donations to the Endowment of $1 million or more will be held in a named fund, the income from which will be used to purchase works of art. Major donors will therefore be associated with an ongoing stream of acquisitions in perpetuity; your name will be fully acknowledged on the label, and on the caption each time the work is reproduced in a book or catalogue, or online. Please contact the NGV Foundation to discuss making a donation to the Endowment
Caring for the NGV Collection is essential to ensuring that our treasures can be enjoyed well into the future. The NGV’s world-class conservation team is dedicated to the care and longevity of over 70,000 works of art, including fashion and textiles, photography, frames and sculptures from the Collection. Your donation will enable this vital work to continue and, crucially, will support our mission to conserve great art that belongs to all Victorians. Conservation projects range in scale from large to small, from the restoration of Tiepolo’s iconic The Banquet of Cleopatra, 1743–44, to Emil Todt’s exceptionally fragile sculpture of the Victorian gold rush, The gold diggers, 1854. You can make a donation to the NGV Conservation program online.
Donate a work of art
If you have a work of art that you would be interested to donate to the NGV, either during your lifetime or as a promised gift through a bequest, our Foundation department would be delighted to discuss this with you in the first instance. All gifts of art need to be aligned with the NGV’s collection strategy and must be formally accepted by the Council of Trustees in order to be recognised as part of the permanent NGV Collection.
