NGV: Well Graham, what are you doing this year?

G: I am doing a drawing course with the VCA (Victorian College of the Arts)

NGV: Majoring in drawing?

G: Yes but it also encompasses any medium you might like to adopt, it has elected studies such as computer animation

NGV: Have you abandoned painting for a while?

G: Yes you could say that.  At the start of last year I didn't really want to do painting at all, the system as it was had this individualistic notion of quality, so painting was at that stage my most skilled practice, so I want with what was safe, rather than explore a new medium I had not experienced before.

NGV: As a result of being forced into painting if you like, did you find it hard coming up with something to paint?

G: No not really.  These paintings are sort of like a continuation of paintings that I had being doing since year 10 really.  I was becoming interested in other things but chose to work in an area that would ensure me a good result.

NGV: Did anything influence you in chosing urban landscapes?

G: It is all about my local area.  I tried to produce almost mythological images of the place.  Most of these are of the same area — Ferntree Gully or Kallista — the views that I have seen from the train going down School or travelling by car down Burwood Highway.
