The inspiration for my work came from studying landscapes and the natural colours of the land. Repeated natural patterns and layers were also important elements, as were the works of Rosalie Gascoigne and photographs of a range of natural textures and colours. As a resource for my works I also used galleries, libraries, art reproductions, newspapers, and websites. In particular, last year’s Top Arts exhibition was a major inspiration.

I worked with mixed media, which allowed me to incorporate multiple elements into my works and to execute the designs that I required. I was not particularly influenced by new technologies, preferring to use recycled products or natural products taken from the land, as well as paint and canvas. The final product and the presentation of my work was particularly important to me.

I believe it is important to explore areas of personal interest and fascination in order for works to be meaningful.
