Goodbye Summer

Last Day of Summer

Sun 27 Feb, 12–6pm

Save the (second) last day of summer for a choice afternoon of free live music with a Kiwi flavour to coincide with Unnerved: The New Zealand Project. Join us for this celebration of summer, art and live music by local and NZ acts. Think picnic rugs, tasty food and drink, a RRR live broadcast and DJs in the dappled shade of the Grollo Equiest Garden at NGV International.

Don’t miss your last chance to visit Unnerved until 6pm, and hear talks throughout the afternoon by local Kiwi curators and artists.

RRR will be broadcasting JGV Radio Method live on site, plus guest RRR DJs will perform throughout the afternoon. Visit rrr.org.au for live broadcast details.

Venue Grollo Equiset Garden, NGV International, 180 St Kilda Road

Line up

12.45–1.30pm The Twerps
These warm-hearted Melbourne pop scallywags play their own brand of incredibly infectious pop, reminiscent of the 80s Flying Nun sound and 90s lo-fi.

2–4pm  Live broadcast of RRR’s JVG Radio Method
A personally biased, thematically blended hotchpotch presented by the one and only Jonnie Von Goes.

3.20–4pm The Frowning Clouds (during RRR live broadcast)
With their head boppin’ 60s garage, freakbeat sounds straight from the heart, these five lads are here to knock the indie boys of today off their high horse and ride them into the sunset!

4.30–5.30pm Lawrence Arabia
The sweet melodies of Kiwi indie superstar Lawrence Arabia, are described by the Sunday Age as “Melding tales of lost love and sunken ships with lush harmonies and lo-fi charm”.

Plus RRR DJs Fee B Squared, Jonathan Alley and Richard Watts will pay homage to one of our nearest and dearest neighbours, with a selection of NZ inspired tunes throughout the day.

Important Information

It might be the last day of summer, but it still gets hot! Don’t forget to bring sunglasses, a hat and sunscreen. Bring your own picnic rug for lounging in the Garden. Sorry, our conditions of entry won’t allow large bags, hampers or eskies to go further than the cloakroom so please leave them at home.

Food and drink
To make the most of the chilled garden setting, we’re firing up the BBQs with gourmet sausages and vegetarian options available for sale. Alcohol cannot be brought onto the premises but will be available for sale (18+ ID required).

What if it rains?
As much as we want you to enjoy the beautiful Garden, if it rains, we’ll need to move the performance into the Great Hall. But never fear – rain, hail or shine, the show will go on.
