Napoleon Ticketing FAQs
Please note Napoleon: Revolution to Empire is a timed ticketed exhibition. Timed ticketing will allow you to plan your visit to the NGV. You will be able to enter the exhibition within your selected hour. There is no restriction on the amount of time you spend in the space during the exhibition opening hours. Each session has limited capacity providing you with a greater viewing experience.
How do I book a ticket?Tickets are available for purchase in advance via Ticketmaster or at NGV.
You can book online at Ticketmaster, by phone on 136 100 or visit NGV or a Ticketmaster outlet.
You can also purchase on the day of your visit at NGV (see below).
How much does it cost?
Ticket prices are as follows:
- Adult $26.00
- Concession (Pensioner/Healthcare /Full time student and Carer card) $ 22.50
- Child (5 – 15 years) $10.00
- Family (2 Adults & 3 Children) $65.00 (additional child on a family ticket $5.00)
- NGV Members $21.00
- NGV Family (2 Adults & 3 Children) $50.00
- Online transaction fee $4.95 (This is per transaction, not individual ticket)
• Do I have to choose a specific date and time?
Yes you will be asked to select a day and time. The sessions run hourly. You can enter the exhibition within your selected hour. Once inside there is no restriction on the amount of time you take to view the exhibition during the gallery opening hours.
• When should I arrive for my session?
With timed tickets you can enter the exhibition anytime within your selected hour. Tickets will be scanned at the exhibition entry. Please have your Membership or Concession cards ready for presentation if applicable.
• What happens if I am late for my session time?
With timed tickets you can enter the exhibition anytime within your selected hour. If you have missed the hour timeslot, please proceed to the ticket desk. We will endeavour to place you in the next available time slot, however we cannot guarantee availability.
• Can I purchase tickets on the day?
On the day sales will be available from the Ticket Desk at NGV International. All sessions have limited capacity and session times will be due to availability on the day. Please note, only credit cards and/or cash payments accepted at the Ticket Desk. EFTPOS is not available.
• Who is entitled to Concession tickets?
Concession tickets apply to holders of the following concession cards: Australian Pensioner, Healthcare, Full time student and Carer cards.
• Is there a Student Offer?
Yes. Fulltime students can purchase a Concession ticket at any time and are entitled to purchase $15.00 tickets on Wednesdays after 4pm.
• What is an Unlimited Entry ticket?
An Unlimited Entry ticket entitles the visitor to enter the exhibition multiple times. This ticket is non-transferrable. Photo ID must be shown upon purchase and each subsequent entry.
• I would like to buy a ticket as a gift how do I do this?
Visit Ticketmaster to purchase an exhibition gift voucher. The gift receiver can redeem their gift voucher at the NGV International Ticket desk and choose their session time.
• How can I book a Group into the exhibition?
For groups of ten or more please contact Ticketmaster on 1300 889 278 for information and ticket prices.
• Do I need a ticket for the rest of the Gallery?
Entry to NGV and NGV Collection exhibitions and displays is free.
Exhibition fees apply for some temporary exhibitions as indicated.
NGV Members• Is there a discount for NGV Members?
Yes. NGV Members tickets are $21.00 and NGV Family tickets (2 Adults & 3 Children) $50.00. NGV Members also receive 10% discount off the exhibition catalogue.
• I have a free NGV Member’s ticket how do I redeem it?
Please present your Members free ticket to Member‘s reception at NGV International and staff will book you into a session time.
• What are the dates and times of that the exhibition is open?
The Napoleon: Revolution to Empire exhibition is showing 2 Jun – 7 Oct 2012. The exhibition is open daily 10am – 5pm and until 9pm on Wednesdays.
• How long does it take to view the exhibition?
The estimated viewing time is 90-120 minutes.
Napoleon: Revolution to Empire brings to Australia for the first time hundreds of objects of breathtaking opulence and luxury – paintings, drawings, engravings, sculpture, furniture, textiles, porcelain, glass, gold and silver, fashion, jewellery and armour.
• Is there an Audio Guide?
Yes. The NGVextra will be available for purchase online with your ticket or from the NGV International Ticket desk (subject to availability). Prices are: Adult $8.00, NGV Member & Concession $7.00. The tour is also available free for download from the NGV website. The audio guide runs for 60 minutes providing a personal journey of the exhibition with compelling insight into the life of Napoleon. For the first time, the audio guide is also available in Auslan sign language and with captions.
• Is there a tour of the exhibition?
Guided tours of the exhibition are available at 11am and 2pm Monday to Friday. Please meet at the exhibition entrance. Groups larger than 10 are not permitted to join these public tours, please contact Ticketmaster on 1300 889 278 to enquire about group discounts and tour options.
• Is there an Introductory Talk to the exhibition?
Yes. 30 minute illustrated introductory talks take place every Wednesday, 1pm and 6pm; Saturday, 11am; and Sunday, 2pm in the Clemenger BBDO Auditorium. Prices are inclusive of exhibition entry: $33 Adult / $28 NGV Member / $29.50 Concession*. If you’ve already bought an exhibition ticket and would like to enjoy a talk you can purchase a $7 Talk Only ticket on the day of your visit at the Ticketing Desk. Please contact Ticketmaster on 136 100 for further information and bookings, or purchase tickets at NGV International.

• Is there a Catalogue?
Yes. Catalogues are available in person from the NGV Shop and from NGV Shop online. The catalogue is $49.95 (softcover) and $79.95 (hardcover).
• Is photography permitted in the exhibition?
Photography is not permitted within this exhibition.
• Is sketching and note-taking permitted in the exhibition?
Sketching and note-taking is permitted with pencils only, crowds permitting.
