Emma Davies

Emma Davies works with polypropylene packaging and netting to transform, in her words, ‘what is intrinsically ugly into something beautiful’. She is entirely self-taught and has practised as an artist since establishing her first studio in 1991. Davies worked with resin and fibreglass for ten years before moving into the medium of polypropylene in 2004.

Davies’s solo exhibitions include Supernatural, Nellie Castan Gallery, Melbourne, 2008, Morphed, Craft Victoria, Melbourne, 2009, and Homage, Artisan, Brisbane, 2011. Since 1997 she has produced sculptural elements for interiors, including commissions for Colonial Stadium, Cinema Nova and Fenix restaurant and events centre, Melbourne, as well as Belgos Hotel, Hong Kong. Davies also runs her own Bower Bird workshops for children, which encourage them to explore recycling, re-using and rethinking through art. Her work is represented by a number of galleries in Sydney, Melbourne and Perth.
