Youth Access Project
The National Gallery of Victoria Youth Access Project is an initiative of the NGV Education and Programs department and is funded by the Pratt Foundation. The project is designed to provide arts based programs, services and activities for young people in metropolitan and regional Victoria, who are not in education or employment.
Art programs developed and implemented by the Youth Access Project focus on young people as audiences, art makers and ambassadors. Key outcomes for youth include personal development skills, employability skills, education and learning skills, and visual arts related skills.
The Youth Access Project received an award (Highly Commended) for Leadership in Community at the 2003 Arts Portfolio Leadership Awards.
A range of programs were implemented during 2003-2004.
Young Men in Custody program
An art program and touring exhibition (July 2003-January 2004) provided an opportunity for young men in custody to access the NGV collection, experience a range of art mediums and communicate their ideas through an exhibition of their art works.
Young Ambassadors program
The Young Ambassadors program (November 2003-October 2004) was a twelve-month paid training program designed to provide positive personal, social, educational and vocational experiences and opportunities for young people with an interest in the visual arts.
