Youth Access Project:
Get Made Community Art Program
Get Made was an innovative youth-to-youth 20 week community art program (August-December 2005), aimed at re-connecting young people with learning via a practical print making, fashion and textile program. The program participants were young people from Hume City. Get Made was run by the National Gallery of Victoria Young Ambassadors and practising artists.
The program included:
- Practical workshops in stencil art, badge making, printmaking (lino cuts, screen printing), jewellery, zine making, sewing and clothes embellishment
- Visits to the National Gallery of Victoria for tours of temporary exhibitions, the permanent collection and behind the scenes, as a stimulus for creative ideas and art making
Participants received credits for Fashion and Retail units from Kangan Batman TAFE.
The NGV Young Ambassadors completed a Certificate IV in Assessment and Workplace Training.
An exhibition designer and photographers worked with the participants during the program to achieve exhibition outcomes at the City Library Gallery and the Hume Global Learning Centre. The exhibitions documented the process and outcomes of the community art program. Badges were also exhibited and for sale at the NGV Australia Shop, Federation Square and Sticky, Campbell Arcade.

A visual diary (PDF format) documents the program.
