Large print artwork labels

Large print artwork labels for exhibitions are available online. See specific exhibition pages for links to download. Once downloaded to your device, artwork labels can be adjusted as necessary to suit your viewing needs.

Art-making resource for autistic children

NGV and The Olga Tennison Autism Research Centre, La Trobe University have collaborated to create a free art-making resource to support autistic children.

Social stories

Developed in consultation with AMAZE, these visual documents are designed to help autistic children and their families or teachers prepare for their visit to the Gallery. Available for free download, these stories are editable and can tailored to your planned visit.

Events

The NGV offers a range of access events including Auslan tours and interpreted events, relaxed sessions, interactive art experiences for people with dementia and open captioned films.

Relaxed Sessions

An opportunity for visitors who could benefit from a quieter Gallery experience to access NGV exhibitions with fewer people and reduced sensory stimuli. This may include autistic visitors or people with disability, dementia, mental health or chronic illness conditions.

Online Events

Captioned recordings of online events are available upon request for personal use only. Please email your request to [email protected] at least 48 hours prior to the event.

Auslan tours and interpreted programs

The NGV offers guided tours in Auslan, introducing visitors to select exhibitions and highlights from the NGV Collection. Auslan tours are led by artists who are Deaf. Major programs are also Auslan interpreted.

Programs for people with dementia

Sharing Connections is an interactive art experience for people with dementia and their family or carers. Using the NGV Collection as the conduit, participants are led through facilitated conversations sparking social connections and shared experiences.

Programs for people with dementia in residential care

Presented by NGV Guides, Art and Memory is open to groups from aged-care and community centres supporting people with dementia.

Gallery Visits You

Presented by the NGV Guides in community centres or aged care facilities in the Melbourne metropolitan area, Gallery Visits You serves groups who are not able to visit the NGV. These illustrated talks provide participants with an engaging experience of the NGV.
