About this work

As the collection title suggests, these works from Kawakubo’s Bad Taste collection parody notions of ‘good taste’ and draw on the subcultural style of rockabilly with a fetishist edge. Kawakubo appropriated tawdry and kitsch materials such as polka-dot tulle, satin underwear and garter-belt frills, with the resulting effect being one of conscious disarray.
