Encounter the dolls, ‘koori kitsch objects and pop-cultural references of Destiny Deacon’s visual world. Join an educator for a floor talk in the exhibition and discuss how her art parodies stereotypes, reclaims cultural identity and subverts cultural phenomena.

Learning Objectives: 

  • Analyse and interpret themes, concepts and ideas in Destiny Deacon’s work and discuss how they are expressed.
  • Identify and describe sources of inspiration in Destiny Deacon’s work.
  • Discuss how Destiny Deacon uses materials, techniques, technologies and processes to realise the intentions in her artworks.
  • Identify and connect specific features of Deacon’s work to a wider historical, cultural and social context.
Art Industry Contexts: DESTINY VCE Studio Arts, Mon-Fri 10am, 11.30am, 1pm & 2.30pm

Focus on key knowledge and skills required for Studio Arts, Unit 4, Area of Study 3 – Art Industry Contexts in an NGV exhibition. Join an NGV educator in the exhibition to discuss the intentions and methods of the artist. Analyse and evaluate the curatorial considerations, exhibition design, promotional and conservation methods involved in preparing and presenting this exhibition

  • Identify and describe the characteristics of an NGV gallery space. 
  • Analyse how specific artworks are presented in DESTINY and discuss the artist’s and gallery curator’s intentions. 
  • Analyse and evaluate curatorial considerations, exhibition design and promotional methods involved in preparing and presenting specific artworks. 
  • Analyse and evaluate methods and considerations involved in the conservation of specific artworks.
