More people live in cities than ever before, and the 21st century has been called ‘the urban century’. Cities offer profound economic, social and cultural opportunities: they are where cultures, ideals and beliefs collide and combine. Locally and internationally, the benefits of cities are often under-realised, misaligned or unevenly distributed. Design increasingly takes on the role of redressing the problems of the city and proposing new ways to accelerate how citizens can access the positive potential or the urban realm.
