In a world where privatisation and capitalism dominate the global economy, Food Democracy asks how to make socially responsive communication, design and art that counters the perceived role of the food industry as a machine of consumption. Four years in the making and involving more than 200 people, the book includes writing from leading international scholars, artists and activists, along with visual and written examples for practical alternatives to and interventions into the dominant corporate forms of the current food system from around the world. A redefinition of food design! The book also includes a compilation of socially engaged recipes by the academic, artist and activist community.
The event will feature a presentation of the book by Dr Oliver Vodeb followed by a conversation between Oliver Vodeb, Daryl Taylor and the audience.
Dr Oliver Vodeb is researcher and lecturer at the School of Design at Swinburne University of Technology and principal curator of Memefest and Lipstick and Bread. Food Democracy is his fifth book.
