Developed for VCE Literature teachers, this professional learning program explores literary perspectives through works in the NGV Collection. Visual texts – works of art and design – offer an accessible method for engaging students with reading, analysing and comparing texts through different lenses. This program models how art and design can build critical analysis and language skills and develop deeper understandings of views and values.

Learning Objectives:

  • Use artworks in the NGV Collection to explore Literary perspectives and developing students’ skills in sharing, critiquing, writing and analysis.
  • Develop strategies for analysing, interpreting and discussing NGV artworks from different cultural, historical and contemporary contexts through different lenses.
  • Compare and contrast the different approaches and techniques artists and writers use to create meaning.
  • Discuss the ways that different views and values can influence the interpretation of selected NGV works.
