In 1854 Japan was forced by the United States to open its borders to international trade. Japonisme explores how the resulting influx of Japanese artworks into Europe and America triggered a revolution in the country’s art and design.

Members are invited to preview the exhibition before it opens to the public and hear more from exhibition curators Amanda Dunsmore and Dr Matthew Martin in a floor talk at 2.30pm.
