Transcendence examines human experience through objects and their ability to activate a cultural representation, cultural practice or inspire a shift in thinking.

We asked artists/designers: How can messages travel through an object? This can be interpreted as how experiencing this object transcends the physical to stimulate our emotions and our imaginations – evoking places, people, surroundings or entire times in our lives – be it past or future. Or, how your part in its design will transcend the now to have meaning during its lifetime.

Objects hold the power to shift one’s mind or inspire a new way of thinking and act as a conduit to highlight our personal priorities within life by enabling, reflecting, referencing and reminding us of what is important to us. Transcendence explores this theme and invites the audience to contemplate the works within this context.
