The National Gallery of Victoria is committed to sharing the rich histories and stories of the NGV Collection and exhibitions. We believe in creating a memorable journey from beginning to end for all visitors to the Gallery.

Our Access Programs including Relaxed Sessions welcome visitors with autism, sensory sensitivities, dementia or disability and provide an opportunity for a supported Gallery experience that is accessible and inclusive. For some, these opportunities make the difference between visiting an exhibition or missing out.

NGV initiatives such as Relaxed Sessions are key to ensuring all visitors experience the Gallery in a supported and inclusive environment. The program opens the Gallery outside of usual operating hours, considers environmental modifications such as adjusting sensory stimuli and provides additional resources that offer further support, including sensory maps, which prepare visitors by identifying areas for rest or light and noise.

‘The whole experience was amazing. This is the first time my daughter has been able to comfortably access a public facility in years. She loved the exhibition and it did wonders for her confidence that she can engage with society in this way. Without this event she could not attend.’

This is a wonderful opportunity to help the Gallery expand Access programs and for the NGV to continue to be a welcoming place for everyone.
