PROJECT

Originally created in 2023 for the High Line in New York, Old Tree reimagines the ancient tree of life motif, a symbol of the connection between Earth and the divine. Pamela Rosenkranz merged scans of trees with images of the human circulatory system to design the sculpture, whose extended branches mirror lungs and veins, suggesting the deep connection between human and plant life. At the same time, the bright-pink hue and synthetic materials point to artificiality, suggesting a future in which the artificial increasingly merges with the natural.

The acquisition of this artist’s work is supported by Loti & Victor Smorgon Fund, Neville & Diana Bertalli, and Tim Fairfax AC & Gina Fairfax AC
