Microcultures & microplastics is an international collaborative design project, involving students and staff from RMIT University and London College of Communication / University of Arts London, as well as support from the CSIRO. From being a cheap and plentiful solution to consumer and industrial needs, plastics have decomposed into a complex global “wicked problem”, as manifested in the Pacific Trash Vortex which covers an area so large it is unmappable. In response, this exhibition presents design prototypes and projects that imagine or develop ways to turn plastic pollution into potential resources, whilst raising community awareness of, and engagement with, issues surrounding microplastics.

This exhibition includes participants from RMIT University, London College of Communication, and CSIRO.
