Join Pieces of Eight for a special Gem School expedition into the National Gallery of Victoria’s art collection, currently on show. Speakers Annika Aitken, Assistant Curator of Asian Art at NGV, Katherine Bowman, Contemporary Jeweller and Nina Oikawa, Contemporary Jeweller and Gemologist will take you on an intimate and personal journey of art and adornment – traversing several artworks over the space of 60 minutes. Our tour guides fossick out a selection of NGV Asian artworks that each reveal a complex and fascinating story of adornment through the ages. Jewels and gems are laden in cultural significance – symbolising wealth, class, momentous occasions and personal milestones.

Presented by the Pieces of Eight Gem School, this guided tour will have you reading and appreciating art in a completely new light. An event for anyone who adores art, design and most importantly – adornment.
