Physical description
Medallion-style patchwork 'frame quilt' with many borders around a central panel. The quilt features a large central medallion-style pieced patchwork with appliqué in cotton, linen, silk and wool fabrics. The central field of cream linen is decorated with appliquéd cotton chintz partridge and flower motifs in the broderie perse technique. The central medallion is framed by 16 bands of strip fabric or square patchwork designs in printed cotton and silk (occasional) or wool (occasional). The patchwork bands increase in scale towards the outer edge. Additional floral and bird appliqué motifs are dispersed across the patchwork bands including at each corner. The outermost edge of the quilt is finished by narrow strip band. The quilt is backed onto discoloured cream cotton and is not padded.
