The NGVWA was established in 1961 and plays a vital part in the life of the National Gallery of Victoria.
The purpose of the NGVWA is to support the interests of the National Gallery of Victoria. This is achieved by funding of works of art for the NGV collections and through a travel scholarship for NGV curators. Since 1963, the NGVWA has also provided Encouragement Awards for promising students of the Victorian College of the Arts.
The NGVWA extends its role by bringing people into the NGV and by fostering a more general interest in the arts. Funds are raised through an annual program of interesting and entertaining events. These include lectures, seminars, visits to private and regional galleries, opportunities to study garden history and design, and events of a more social character with an arts based theme. They are all highly anticipated and frequently sold out.
Over the years the NGVWA has added an important number of works to the magnificent collections of the NGV. The works of well-known artists such as Andy Warhol, Anish Kapoor, Christopher Dresser and Peter Booth are represented amongst the gifts of the NGVWA along with exquisite pieces of porcelain and eighteenth century needlework.
The Association is made up of 55 elected members from all walks of life, who each bring a valuable skillset. They all share a love of the NGV and a genuine interest in art. Membership is by invitation and all members are required to participate throughout the year, working in sub committees to produce the annual events as volunteers assisting those events as they occur.
A SWEET IDEA SUPPORTING THE NGVWA
Dear NGVWA Supporter,
We have all experienced great changes in our lives over recent months. While our NGVWA programs have been postponed to date, we have a genuine commitment to resume our fundraising events in the near future in conjunction with Government guidelines.
In the meantime, it gives me great pleasure to bring you an opportunity to support the NGVWA by purchasing the much anticipated fourth book by the Monday Morning Cooking Club, Now For Something Sweet.
The MMCC girls have handpicked their favourite ‘can’t-live-without’ sweet recipes from Australia and around the world. Uniquely, the book contains a series of essential ‘how to’ guides for the home cook and concludes with a savoury chapter.
Filled with moving stories of family, friendship, community and survival, this is a book to treasure and cook from day after day.
The book retails for $50 (including GST). Profits from each book sold through the NGV Design Store will go towards the NGVWA Fundraising Program to support art acquisition at the NGV and vital scholarships at the VCA.
I thank the team at Monday Morning Cooking Club for their ongoing support of the NGVWA and I look forward to seeing you soon.
