Experience a taste of la dolce vita with an afternoon of all things Italian. Enjoy art, free talks, artist-led workshops, card games, and performances all set to the sounds of Italian music from past and present with coffee and cannoli available to purchase on the day.

    An Italian Afternoon is part of the NGV Italia program which celebrates Italian art, design, culture and life through events and resources all brought together for the first time within the NGV Collection.

Made in Italy – Italian Fashion from the NGV Collection

Level 3

Experience four decades of fashion creativity and bold experimentation through more than fifty outfits and accessories from iconic Italian fashion houses such as Gucci, Fendi, Prada and Valentino.

Italian Paintings & Drawings

Level 1 & 2

Discover Italian art across the ages as you journey from 14th century devotional paintings through opulent Baroque scenes to evocative modern portraits. Explore Italian paintings and drawings by masters such as Bellotto, Titian, Fontana, Modigliani and more.

Venetian Glass

Level 1

Venetian glass, known as cristallo by the locals, gained fame throughout the Mediterranean from the 13th century onward. It was prized for its remarkable clarity, technical mastery and delicate, transparent quality.

Gaetano Pesce Floor Lamp

Level 3

Blurring the boundaries between art and design, discover 20th century Italian architect and designer Gaetano Pesce’s three-metre-tall interpretation of a classic desk lamp, Prototype no. 000-F for Moloch floor lamp, 1971–72.
