Ground Level
Allan Lowe was a pioneering potter in the Australian scene, working mostly from his home studio at a time when materials and training in the medium were scarce. The first example of studio pottery in the NGV Collection – a small terracotta bowl with a turquoise-glazed interior – was by Lowe and was purchased in 1947.
This exhibition was a retrospective survey of fifty years of Lowe’s oeuvre and included more than sixty pieces, mostly from private collections.
