Ground Level
Jewellery is one of the most vital areas within contemporary Australian craft.
This exhibition presents a selection of recent works by four leading designer-makers: Kate Durham, Rowena Gough, Carlier Makigawa and Margaret West. Each according to her own distinctive style shows an intense engagement with ideas and emotions within the intimate medium of jewellery. With respect to materials and techniques, their conspicuous departure from the expected in fact serves the traditional values of jewellery making — a sensitivity to the individual physical characteristics of materials and to the nature of jewellery as an art which relates to the body.
