Ground Level
This exhibition is drawn almost entirely from the permanent collection of the National Gallery of Victoria and highlights one of the many strengths of the Gallery’s large holdings of works of art on paper. Showcasing a medium-based selection from the collection of Australian prints, which, for conservation reasons, cannot be on long term display, In Relief presents a survey of the history of relief printmaking in this country. In addition to the prints of important historical figures such as Lionel Lindsay and Margaret Preston, the exhibition includes a range of innovative contemporary work, testifying to the continuing importance of the relief print within current art practice.
