It’s party time and everyone is invited to discover their dream outfit at the latest NGV children’s exhibition.

Showcasing vibrant and imaginative items selected from the NGV’s Fashion & Textiles Collection, the exhibition introduces children to creative accessories, spectacular evening dresses and innovative outfits from some of the world’s leading contemporary designers, milliners and creatives.

Choosing clothing and creating outfits is a way for children to express their creativity and explore their identity. In an inspiring setting dreamt up by Melbourne designer Danielle Brustman, children can party on the dancefloor, make party accessories through hands-on activities, and capture the moment in a fashion-styled photo shoot.

Activities

Fashion Statements

Discover over thirty garments and accessories from the NGV Fashion & Textiles Collection that encourage close looking and share fascinating stories about the designers’ ideas, inspirations and creative processes. Talking together about art and design helps children develop critical thinking and communication skills while inspiring them to explore their own style and creativity.

Celebrate Creativity

In these hands-on activities, children can decorate their own party hat to wear and draw their favourite kind of cake stacked high with sprinkles, candles and piped cream. Drawing and making help develop fine motor skills, boost imagination and build confidence as children express their own unique ideas.

Let's Dance

Dance is often at the heart of a party, and everyone’s invited to express themselves on the dance floor at the centre of the exhibition. With bright lights, glittering disco balls and music that never stops, every day becomes a celebration.

The playlist is inspired by both the designer’s studio and the fashion runway, where fashion designers create exciting experiences set to unforgettable soundtracks. From the beats of Lady Gaga and Beyoncé to pulsing Berlin techno and stomping 70s rock, these tracks will get everyone moving.

Dress to impress

Step into the spotlight and shine! Dress up as a sparkly gold star, a glowing heart or a lightning bolt ready to strike, and strike a pose against a spectacular backdrop. This interactive multimedia experience lets you capture the moment and take home a personalised video portrait as a memorable souvenir of your visit.
