Light Play

Free entry

The Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia, Fed Square

NGV Kids Corner, Cnr Flinders and Russell Sts

2 Jun 10 – 7 Nov 10

Sparkling crystals, fish that respond to shadow and a view through a kaleidoscope are all part of children’s experience in Light Play. This exhibition encourages children to play with light and look at art works and the world in different and unusual ways. Melbourne artist Juan Ford has added his inspiring response to the installation, creating a wonderful interactive experience for children and their families; and Experimenta Media Arts presents Immersion, an interactive underwater wonderland that lets you play with sea creatures without getting wet!

Light Play presents artworks from across the NGV Collection that investigate the way light affects the world around us.From ancient Egyptian to contemporary works, this interactive exhibition allows children to bend, distort, reflect, and refract to their hearts’ content whilst engaging with some of the very basic, everyday principles of physics that are so fundamental within our lives.

NGV Kids Corner is a space for children and their families to enjoy creative installations and activities designed just for them; where kids can have fun learning and sharing new experiences in the visual arts, all for free.
