This exhibition was organised under the auspices of The International Council of The Museum of Modern Art, New York in association with Art Exhibitions Australia Limited.
In addition to works on paper and sculptures of terracotta and bronze, the exhibition included works by French Impressionist and Post-Impressionist painters, the Nabis, the Fauves, Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, Joan Miró and post-war American artists including Jackson Pollock, Kenneth Noland and Josef Albers.
William S. Paley was the late founder of the Columbia Broadcasting System (CBS). At the Museum of Modern Art, New York he also served in various capacities throughout his lifetime including as trustee, president of the Museum, chairman of the Board and chairman emeritus.
