New Worlds from Old

19th Century Australian and American Landscapes

NGV International

Ground Level

27 Jun – 16 Nov 98

Jointly organised by the National Gallery of Australia and Wadsworth Atheneum, Hartford, Connecticut, the exhibition comprised over 100 Australian and American art landscapes, ranging from naive to the profoundly sophisticated, from heroic to plein-air, to demonstrate both the similarities and the very clear differences between painting in these ‘new worlds’.
