San Marco and Venice

One of the year’s most ambitious exhibitions was San Marco and Venice, which brought together extremely important works from the celebrated Treasury of the Church of San Marco in Venice as well as both Byzantine and mediaeval pieces from churches across the surrounding Veneto region. The exhibition was carefully planned over five years and could not have been the success it was without the support, enthusiasm and commitment of Sir James Gobbo. The exhibition was also notable for the display cases designed specifically for the Treasury by Mario Bellini.
