NGV at the State Library of Victoria of Site (until 1968)
22 Nov – 7 Dec 67
The present exhibition marks Nolan’s fiftieth birthday and covers the artist’s paintings from 1937 to 1967. Sidney Nolan is one of the very few painters whose work has developed from abstraction to representation. He is one of the quiet Australians, easy an inventive in conversation, with an enquiring mind and a sharp and quizzical eye, sharply aware of the oddities underlying the behaviour of his fellow man and never intolerant of the most unusual. The exhibition presents over 140 works drawn from private collections and state institutions.
