Physical description
This delightful painting is painted in a circle, which is evocative of the moon, a circular window or the circular Chinese fan. The plum blossom is accomplished by a single dynamic and expressive calligraphic brushstroke in ink across the upper half of the painting, depicting the trunk of the tree and then in sweeping brushstrokes the branches and red blossoms. On the trunk is the playful fury squirrel looking down with full and alert concentration. In the background are the lyrical delicate bamboos sketched in calligraphic brushstrokes in green and blue.
