About this work
A celebrated Yolŋu artist from Yirrkala in Arnhem Land, Ms N. Yunupiŋu was renowned for her innovative and experimental approach to mark-making and materials. She was particularly known for her embrace of technology to share stories and reflect on her own experiences. Light painting features a digital loop of 110 scanned drawings in white pen on acetate, which over time multiply. In each loop, three of the scans are selected and shown at random using a custom algorithm that also alters each scan’s transparency percentage. The three scanned drawings are then overlaid with another set of three scans featuring the same visual alterations, continuing the loop.
