About this work

A ceremonial woman who lived without material possessions, Ms N. Yunupiŋu worked for almost a decade in the print medium before she began to paint work on small sheets of bark in 2007, painting amorphous images of indeterminate creatures that resembled geckos, turtles or crocodiles. Light painting is a digital looping of 110 scanned drawings in white pen on acetate that double and multiply over the course of their screening. In each loop, three of the scans are chosen at random through a custom algorithm, with each one assigned a particular transparency percentage before being overlayed with another set of three with the same alterations.
