About this work
In 1968 the Italian design trio Gatti, Paolini and Teodoro began working on a seating concept that would speak to the young, hip generation of the 1960s – a design that was practical, casual and stylish. They produced the Sacco, or Beanbag, which became a cult object overnight. Its versatile shape, offering the sitter a variety of lounging positions, and its three-dimensional design, allowing it to be placed anywhere in a room, spoke directly to the casual, social lifestyle of the era. An icon of light, modern and informal seating, the Beanbag has become one of the most recognisable expressions of Italian seating design.
