About this work

Miuccia Prada initially studied political science, obtaining a PhD in the discipline before studying mime at Milan’s Piccolo Teatro in preparation for a career in acting. By her mid-twenties she was a committed feminist engaged in the left-wing political activities of 1970s Milan. These early convictions have contributed to Prada’s design ethos that clothing must express what women deeply feel. This coat from the label’s critically acclaimed spring–summer 2014 collection encompasses Prada’s aesthetic and feminist values, affirmed by Miuccia Prada when after the collection presentation she said, ‘I want to inspire women to struggle.’
