About this work
Coat, from Prada’s critically acclaimed spring–summer 2014 collection, captures Miuccia Prada’s aesthetic and the strong feminist themes regularly present in her work which reflect her background in political science. As the designer has said, ‘I was concerned with women and the strength of women. We are here, we are strong, we are visible, we are kind of fighters … I wanted to give encouragement, to be out there … I want to inspire women to struggle’. The decorative bra becomes a signifier of women’s power within a constrained, classic silhouette.
