About this work

This dress is an iconic work in Gianni Versace’s career and is perhaps his best-known design. The work combines the slashed and DIY aesthetic language of British punk while simultaneously celebrating the female form. A reinterpretation of the classic little black dress, Versace’s version is made from black stretch crepe sliced open at the side and connected by thirteen strategically placed oversized gold and gilt-silver safety pins, embellished with diamantes and embossed with Versace’s Medusa-head emblem.
