About this work
Kerrie Poliness’s Red matter wall drawing #3 is a book of instructions that requires ‘collaborators’ to create the work in red fibre-tipped pen directly onto the wall. Based on formal rules and geometric principles of abstract painting, Poliness leaves some decision-making to the person who executes the drawing. As a result, the form and composition of the work varies with each realisation, subject to the variables in interpretation, calculation and error. The iPad alongside the wall drawing shows each page of the illustrated instruction book.
