About this work

For Gaultier the possibilities of trompe l’oeil and his fascination with skin guide his romantic and fetishist designs. Graffiti goddess dress employs trompe l’oeil to create the impression of a Classical form. Gaultier references Classical art and art history with this work, which has a subversive edge with the addition of the graffiti text ‘JPG’ and ‘safe sex’ etched into a photographed image of the statue.
