About this work
The Matricardi ceramic factory was founded by the engineer Giuseppe Maria Matricardi in 1922. A year later the factory was under the artistic direction of the painter and illustrator Adolfo de Carolis. During its early years, the factory collaborated with artists from the ceramic-making centres of Faenza, Pesaro and Castelli. This plate, with its references to classical antiquity, is a typical example of the Art Deco style ornamental wares produced by the Matricardi ceramic factory during the late 1920s and early 1930s.
