About this work

Raf Simons was creative director of Christian Dior from 2012 to 2015. His tenure was characterised by a contemporaneous interpretation of the style codes of founder Christian Dior. From his debut couture collection for the house of Dior, Look 10, bar coat saw Simons reference the influential 1947 ‘Bar’ suit silhouette, with its tight waist and broad hip line, adapting the spirit of the New Look for the 2010s. Simons’ reductive approach to construction is visible in the materials, techniques and details of this coat, with its clean lines, deep pockets and sleek streamlined belt to cinch the waist.
