About this work
In keeping with many of Dale Frank’s works from the early 2000s, the title of this painting refers to an American teen actor and singer, and alludes to the malleability of Hollywood identities at the mercy of the internet. According to the artist, this work references ‘actors who achieved a coolness or sexual allure, or young actors who achieved star status in a brief period then disappeared’. The work appears as a kind of psychological portrait of the star, with the viewer invited to actively participate through the paint’s reflective surface, made from viscous poured layers of paint and varnish.
