About this work

Milan fashion house Prada was founded by brothers Mario and Martino Prada in 1913. Originally established as a purveyor of imported items and leather goods under the name Fratelli Prada, the company served affluent customers high-quality luxury items for much of the twentieth century. In 1978 Mario Prada’s granddaughter Miuccia Prada took over the family business. She proceeded to expand the brand by creating subversive designs addressing social issues such as female empowerment, consumerism and capitalism. This dress is made from nylon, a fabric Miuccia Prada introduced for its practicality and durability, reflective of her interest in elevating everyday materials to the realm of luxury.
