About this work
Alison Rehfisch studied at the Julian Ashton School, Sydney, and following this became a member of the Royal Art Society of New South Wales. There, her career flourished, with Rehfisch’s work winning the Royal Art Society Prize and attracting favourable reviews. In 1930 Rehfisch shared a studio in Sydney with Dorrit Black, Rah Fizelle, Thea Proctor and Adelaide Perry. In 1933 she moved to London, and from there travelled extensively across Europe with her partner, George Duncan, returning to Sydney in 1939. In 1947 a major fire in her studio destroyed much of her work. Sailing boats, Brittany was completed while Rehfisch was travelling in France.
