About this work

Marian Hosking uses drawing, fabrication and casting techniques to translate imagery from natural environments, particularly of native plants. Inspired by her experience of the inland coastal environments around Victoria and New South Wales, Hosking’s Crest brooch resembles a specimen of golden wattle. Rather than replicating the plant in a purely illustrative fashion, she has used silver to convey an emotional sensibility and deep connection to place, inviting the viewer to ascribe their own meaning to the work.
