About this work

Inge King is recognised as one of Australia’smost important late twentieth-century sculptors. Her career spanned nearly eight decades, commencing in Berlin in 1937 before King settled permanently in Warrandyte, east of Melbourne, in 1952. A lesser-known aspect of her early career in Australia was her jewellery practice. Most prolific between 1951 and 1962, King created silver and copper works that were strikingly avant-garde – expressive, modernist forms that were well received by critics and the public alike. King continued to produce small-scale pieces throughout her career.
