About this work
Presented by the Women’s Social and Political Union (WSPU), Medals for Valour honoured women who undertook hunger strikes while imprisoned for suffrage activism. Fewer than one hundred medals were awarded by the WSPU. The reverse of the two enamelled bars on this medal bear the inscription ‘FED BY FORCE 21.12.09’.
